Personality:
Crossy Fade exists in an almost perpetual state of awkwardness. She comes from a family of runners: strong, fast earth ponies that participate in the running of the leaves every year, leading the pack for the rest to follow. Stream, however, is clumsy to a fault. She trips over her own hooves if she's not careful, often bonks her head on shelves and can't be trusted with delicate objects. About the only thing that she doesn't wreck is her beloved musical equipment, so she doesn't really bring it out much in public...at all.
Crossy tries to be nice to everypony, but she's used to not matching her parent's expectations. as such, she has a case of the shy dithers. White not quite as extreme as Fluttershy's, she does have a tendency to hide behind objects and not look everypony in the eye.
Crossy really, really loves music; she likes both listening to it and writing it. She has a respectable assortment of equipment back in canterlot, but she doesn't bring it out all that much because she's worried about it getting damaged (and, given her level of dexterity, this is probably likely).

History:
Crossy was born into a family of runners - important ponies with important jobs. They were messengers, athletes, leaf-runners and chariot-pullers, and they had a long and glorious lineage that extended back generations. Crossy was clearly NOT of this lineage; although she worked and practiced, she got tired quickly and constantly tripped and stumbled over the smallest things. After a while, her parents and (four, older) siblings quietly left her alone to her own means; she took to wandering, looking for stray castoffs to see if she could find some sort of identity (and cutie mark) from there.
It was to her great fortune that one day she discovered a massive tangle of wires, keyboard and turntables. These were cast-offs of an olderpony who had left them behind after joining the knights of Canterlot. Without bothering to ask or figure out why they were left, Crossy ran back, grabbed a wagon from her house and began laboriously carrying everything home.
It took her weeks to fully get everything set up; she figured out which wires went where mostly through trial and error, always hiding her "project" from her family out of fear that they would make her return it. eventually, however, she had everything ready.
She hasn't yet had a chance to practice her contraption, though. She's waiting for sometime when her parents or brothers or sister won't walk in on her, but that time just plumb hasn't come up yet. She doesn't want to disturb them; she wants to be a runner, just like they are. Crossy just KNOWS that if her parents find out about this, she won't ever get her cutie mark at all.
