Personality:

Midnight Light, if nothing else, is a working demonstration of how being a talented foal can destroy a pony for later life. Gifted with a knack for mastering spells from an early age and a ready mind, Midnight Light is probably capable of tackling any problem she puts her mind to. The issue, however, is putting her mind to it.

Despite the nurturing and tutoring of her parents, both accomplished magicians themselves, Midnight Light would much rather run around and daydream than practice her magic. Her ignorance of something that is undeniably her "special talent" probably accounts for the fact that she's well into the age range of a Cutie Mark-bearing pony and yet still does not have her own.

Self-centered and always craving attention (though she wouldn't readily admit that to anypony!), Midnight Light is prone to showing off for a crowd, even if this means making a fool of herself. She's not necessarily desperate to please, especially when it comes to going the extra mile to help somepony out; she is, however, desperate to please if she can reap a very direct reward.

Midnight Light is also eager to step up into leadership positions in groups, enjoying all the glory that it brings. This can push her into behavior that can only be described as unnecessarily bossy. She makes a decent enough leader when it comes to all the fun stuff, but when the time comes to tackle a dangerous obstacle or make an important decision, Midnight Light is more likely to back down.

Despite her flaws, Midnight can be a kind pony when times call for it, and her taste for fun and adventure make it easy for her to find her place in a group.

History:

Midnight Light is the only child of two prominent court ponies. Moon Daze, her father, is a well-known magician who has penned many a spell book. Her mother, Dawn Shine, is among the most celebrated diplomats in the new kingdom of Equestria. Due to her parents' busy lives, Midnight Light found herself raised mostly by hired caretakers. While she didn't mind this at all, her parents' urges for her to work hard and study her magic never sunk in as well without their presence to reinforce the orders.

As a young foal, Midnight entertained herself by inventing games and imaginary friends to play them with. She taught herself her first spell early on, proving that she was by far an early bloomer in magic. This spell was a simple horn illumination trick, and Midnight Light soon grew bored with it and was reluctant to attempt any other basic spells. She wanted super powerful magic immediately.

But talent does not grow immediately, and so Midnight Light has seen her peers develop their own magical talents. Though she has no idea, it's likely that the other young court unicorns will all eclipse her before long.
