Personality:

Marina is a pretty typical Earth pony -- helpful, friendly, optimistic, and hard-working. She can be rather shy when first meeting a new pony but, an extremely trusting individual, it doesn't take her very long to warm up.

The pony loves to have fun just as much as any; however, when she is taken away from the seas for too long, she gets uncomfortable, fidgety and, to be honest, quite grumpy. Marina hates being woken up when sleeping. Usually whoever the waker-upper is best get the heck out of Dodge because they would otherwise soon receive a swift kick to the jugular. Marina doesn't dislike many other things except her irrational fear of grasshoppers.

She's pretty good-natured about pranks and sarcasm, being quite sarcastic herself. Although not rough-and-tumble, she's not exactly uncultured and considers herself a good balance between feminine and roguish. Her favorite past times include swimming and discovering new things that she's never seen before. For this reason, she usually takes a weekly adventure to some reach of Equestria that she has yet to visit.

Marina absolutely loves the ocean. Brought up next to the sea, she finds absolute peace when she is in/near the ocean. The young mare is extremely adept at swimming and can hold her breath for long periods of time. Her extensive knowledge of the beach or, rather, pretty much anything to do with the ocean and ocean-life is what got her her Cutie mark.

History:

With parents who were born to travel, Marina and her brother, Storm Wind, were raised at their grandmother's seaside cottage. It was within this simple home that they both grew up with their grandmother's good cooking and the smell of the ocean breeze flowing in through the windows.

Life was pretty average for the filly, with the only difference being that she only saw her parents once a month. However, she and her brother didn't mind too much, as they would always receive gifts and souvenirs from their parents's travels.

She received her Cutie mark just a month or two after her brother did. Her and Storm Belt had been collecting sea shells on the beach when she found a stranded sea star about to be dried out by the sun. Quickly rescuing it, she decided to dedicate her life to learning all that she could about the creatures and things that made the ocean so intriguing.

But now, for the most part, it's business as usual for Marina.
