#03: character creation
Despite the fact that this is a roleplay based on My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic, you are not limited to solely playing ponies. This thread will review your options for creating a character.
GENERAL RULES#01: No matter what, your first character must be a pony.
#02: Please keep in mind the guidelines for each creature and keep in mind. All ponies must be a solid color (their mane doesn't have to be solid) and must be one type of pony. No unicorn-pegasus hybrids! All gryphons must be natural hybrids.
#03: If a species is labeled as LIMITED, you may not create it unless you have purchased it in the store or otherwise been granted an exception.
#04: Accessorizing is cool, but please don't be ridiculous. Ponies usually don't wear clothes, so it's going to be very, very odd if your character is constantly wearing leg warmers or a scarf. Also keep in mind that this is ancient Equestria, and unicorn magic technology probably hasn't developed to the point it's at in FiM canon.
PONIESEven when creating a pony, you have a wide array of options to choose from. All ponies have a solid-colored coat and a mane and tail that can vary in color. Once a pony discovers his or her special talent or interest, a Cutie Mark will appear on his or her flank. There are three basic types of pony:
#01: Earth Pony: earth ponies are hardworking ponies whose talents are usually outside the realms of magic and flight. They are capable of limited magic, usually directly relevant to their special talent reflected in their Cutie Mark. From communicating with animals to growing the healthiest plants, earth ponies are easily the most varied of pony types.
#02: Pegasus Pony: pegasus ponies are deeply connected to the sky, and as an extension, all of nature. They are capable of limited flight when young and of full flight when fully grown. In addition, pegasus ponies have access to the budding colony of Cloudsdale.
#03: Unicorn: unicorns are perhaps the deepest thinkers of ponies, making up most of the inventors and devout in the land. Their horns allow for them to harness all sorts of magic, though the extent of their power will vary from pony to pony.
BISONThe bison own most of the western plain, and have a predominantly tribal culture. They are not united under a single figurehead, but family groups usually will have their own chief. Bisons are not capable of magic, but are forces to be reckoned even without.
Though they have natural colored coats and no Cutie Marks to speak of, bison can still preserve individuality by decorating themselves with various items found in nature.
GRYPHONSFor the most part, Gryphons inhabit the area north of Equestria. They are ruled by a formal monarchy, and have an active military force. As a very advanced nation, Gryphons are highly educated and will often spend a year in their youth studying and interacting with Equestrians in Canterlot.
Unlike the multicolored ponies, Gryphons have a more natural palette. Different species of birds and cats are easily seen in their looks; from falcons and cheetahs to owls and bobcats, every sort of raptor and wildcat is easy to find.
DRAGONSBaby dragons have an ongoing partnership with the kingdom of Equestria. They act as companions and messengers for students and royalty in Canterlot. Due to their incredible longevity, it's likely a dragon may serve a pony through the pony's entire lifetime while not aging him- or herself at all.
Young dragons come in a variety of colors, and are capable of walking both bipedally and quadrupedally. Their opposable thumbs makes them ideal scribes for ponies.
